Sandwich board application form

Please complete this form to apply for a sandwich board license, to place an advertising board out on the footpath in front of your business.

You can save your answers and continue later.

Once the form is submitted, we will process your application within 5 working days. 

When we approve your application, we’ll post you your license sticker to display on your board and will email you your license conditions and invoice.

1. Are you intending to place your sandwich board on public property? *This question is required.You can use our online Property Map to check the boundary lines.
You do not require Council permission to place your board on private property. All you need is permission from that property owner.
We’re happy to check for you once you submit your application. 

Alternatively, you can send a photo/diagram of your intended location to streetactivities@wcc.govt.nz, and we’ll let you know whether you need to use this form to apply for a license.
 
2. Does the entrance to your business face the footpath/street at ground level? *This question is required.
We will assess your application on a case-by-case basis. 

If your business is part of a mall, arcade, office building, or any other setup without its own street frontage, we’ll consider granting an individual license only if the footpath can accommodate it.

But if the footpath is already quite cluttered or narrow, we will ask that your building owner or landlord apply for licenses on behalf of its tenant businesses, so that all businesses be advertised on 1–2 boards on the footpath.
We can confirm your eligibility when we receive your application.
